DEDICATED TO EL SISTEMA 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Fanfarria Aniversaria is a short work of approximately five minutes, structured in three sections that in some way reflect the motto of El Sistema: “Play, Sing, and Fight.” We all remember the fondness our beloved José Antonio had for brass instruments, especially for the brilliant sound of trumpets. For this reason, I wanted to compose a piece that brings to the forefront that pristine sound he loved so much. The work is jubilant from beginning to end, with musical phrases that continually suggest light, hope, and something positive waiting at the end of the journey. In the middle section, a chorale appears, treated in an oratorio-like manner, recalling the unshakable faith the maestro cherished. I conceive this section as a personal offering to someone who influenced all of us in such a profound and positive way. The final section arrives with drums and quitiplás —where available— wrapping the audience in a festive and contagious optimism, wishing a long life to El Sistema, my alma mater.

Fanfarria Aniversaria es una obra breve, de aproximadamente cinco minutos, estructurada en tres momentos que reflejan, de algún modo, el lema de El Sistema: “Tocar, Cantar y Luchar”. Todos conocemos la predilección que nuestro querido José Antonio tenía por los metales y, en especial, por el sonido brillante de las trompetas. Por ello quise componer una pieza que pusiera en primer plano ese sonido prístino que tanto le apasionaba. La obra es jubilosa de principio a fin, con frases que siempre sugieren una luz, una esperanza, algo positivo al final del camino. En la sección central aparece un coral que abordo con carácter de oratorio, evocando la fe inquebrantable que el maestro atesoraba, y que concibo como una ofrenda personal a quien influyó de manera tan profunda y positiva en todos nosotros. El final llega acompañado de tambores y quitiplás —donde sea posible incluirlos— envolviendo al oyente en un optimismo festivo y contagioso, como augurio de larga vida para El Sistema, mi alma mater.
